Exam Myths
Exam time seems to come with certain rules/expectations, many of which are false. At least in my humble opinion, which we all know is NEVER wrong. here are my thoughts on faux exam rules:
1. Do not go out the weekend before exams. See, the rooms and I frequented Yeats, per usual Thursday tradition. And no one was there. No one was on the P2P. NO one was out. Now she and I study for exams more than the average person (because, after all, we get so dern behind) but there is no reason to skip weekend festivities, providing you have the time. Relaxation is key to exam success. I do NOT promote getting crazy ass drunk the night before a major test, but a beer or two and a good dance never hurt anyone.
2. Wearing pjs to an exam is totally acceptable. This doesn't exactly seem to apply to Carolina girls, who always look impeccable no matter what (curse those stupid beauty queens), but everywhere else it seems to be commonly acknowledged that not showering and wearing pjs or sweats to an exam is totally ok. here's why this is untrue:
a) if you have a male professor, form fitting clothing/smelling good can only help. really.
b) psychologically, if you look put together the day of the exam, the teacher believes that you are ready for the exam. ie - you had enough prep time, sleep time, and you are not stressed cuz you know for sure that you are gonna ace it. This also can only help your grade
3. If you don't know it by now, you aren't going to. This old adage is repeated by teachers and students the world over, referring to last minute cramming. Dude, honestly, half the exams I passed were because of info I learned 2 seconds before the test started. This is the PERFECT time to study. I always make sure to get to an exam 30 mins early so that I can have this cram time. It's essential to success. Trust me.
4. Grades are final. In the words of the incomparable Anjelica Huston, "darling, nothing is final until you are dead. And even then, Im sure God negotiates." Why did I graduate Valedictorian? Because I fought for every damn point I could get. It has nothing to do with smarts or hard work. Teachers dont like arguing, and they are especially weak at the end of the semester. Therefore, pushing for points often proves VERY helpful. The amount of Bs Ive turned into As this way is astounding....
